Some of you may already know me. I’ve kept a personal blog that has double-timed on two popular blogging communities for a number of years now. The content there varies in quality and nature. Recently, it has primarily consisted of my ranting about my frustrations with senior year of college and the process of figuring out what I am going to do with my life after I graduate (I hope that means grad school for creative writing, but I still don’t know for sure). Because I sometimes lapse into subjects that I’d rather not have strangers read, my personal blog has scrupulous security filters attached to it.
However, as a developing writer, I like the idea of having a public blog. As the internet community has developed, blogging has turned into an activity that can, in fact, be made into a highly polished, professional form of public verbal expression. Sometimes I post things on my private blog that I would like to share with others outside my immediate circle of readers (mostly friends who like receiving updates on my life) — and I can’t help thinking that I would like to post publicly, once in a while. I like having a polished-looking product to show for my creative efforts. I look forward to having a place that’s free of cluttered preset layouts and poor archiving systems, a place where I can distill interesting things from the chaotic drawing board that is my personal blog. A place where I can record my various creative activities without cluttering the subscriptions pages and inboxes of those friends who find that my frequent, lengthy, and often non-substantive posts (which often include picture-heavy documentation) give both them and their browsers big headaches. WordPress gives me more options for organizing my posts and making my blog media-friendly than do the hosts of my personal blog. Which is why I’ve decided to start writing here.
This blog, silverkeys.writes, will be a space for my more thoughtful (and less daily-life-oriented) musings, for documenting creative projects and for writing about books I’ve read, movies I’ve seen, issues I find interesting. Old readers will find that I’ve eliminated some of the more spontaneous thought-detritus (such as the majority of emoticons, irregular capitalization, and runaway onomatopoeia) that characterize my personal blog. (Stage directions, however, will remain, offset with italics rather than double-colons. I’m melodramatic like that). Some of the posts that appear here will, admittedly, probably be cross-posted from my personal blog. Over time, however, I hope to start posting frequently enough that most of the content found here will be unique to this space.
In any case, prepare to enter the nerdy and often downright strange thought space that is my English-major head. (You’ve been warned!)
