…is what one of my friends from college said to me one summer afternoon when he called me and I was chopping vegetables. Not that domesticity is a bad thing. It’s just that my life has been inordinately taken up by it lately. Oh, well – school is stressful. I deserve my non-literary outlet(s) once in a while [NOT, however, when it takes up ALL of my homework time like working on a new layout for the 2.0 version of my web site did yesterday night…frown. I ought to be more disciplined]
Some little gourds I bought at the Farmer’s Market (a bit wasteful, I know, since one can’t eat them, but any decoration makes our spartan living room seem homier). I liked the way this photograph (and the arrangement itself) turned out.
Honey-mint cupcakes with lemon cream cheese icing. No recipe, because they didn’t end up tasting like mint (though the did taste good – more like a good honey vanilla cupcake than a mint one though), and I royally screwed up the icing (I thought it was disgusting when I tasted it, but everyone else seemed to think it was ok, so maybe it was just me. Note to self, though: no matter what you’ve read, substituting tofu for half of the cream cheese is NOT a good idea).
Banana nut muffins! One of my housemates had her very first banana nut muffin a couple weeks ago at Starbucks and I’d promised her I’d make her some at home. These actually turned out well. I halved this recipe, used walnuts instead of pecans (and used more nuts than the halved recipe would’ve called for), and sprinkled the tops with brown sugar and more nuts before baking. I ended up with 8 or 9 plump muffins, which was the perfect number for our little household of 3.
